Sudan: Protest by family, youth against Mudawi’s detention
Family members and youth carried out protests against the detention of human rights activist Dr Mudawi Ibrahim in front of the Sudanese Justice Ministry and at a North Kordofani school.
Family members and youth carried out protests against the detention of human rights activist Dr Mudawi Ibrahim in front of the Sudanese Justice Ministry and at a North Kordofani school.
The demonstrators submitted two memoranda to the Minister of Justice and the attorney-general, appealing for their intervention in the case and expediting the proceedings for Mudawi’s release.
The activist and Khartoum University professor has been in detention since 6 December 2016, for reasons the authorities have not made public.
His nephew told Radio Dabanga that the protest coincided with another one yesterday morning: students of the Kandowa Amzogy Basic School in Um Rawaba in North Kordofan, the hometown of Mudawi, called for his release. The construction of the basic school was contributed to by Mudawi in the mid-nineties.
One of teachers of Kandowa Amzogy told this station that the school has been able to achieve a high success rate in the children’s school examinations results and compete with other schools in North Kordofan.

On 5 March students of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Khartoum also staged a march on campus, demanding the release of their professor.
Kober Prison detainees
Family members of Moataz El Jeili, a detainee in Kober Prison in Khartoum, said that his health has deteriorated after suffering a severe asthma attack during his 60 days of detention.
“He should urgently be checked by a doctor,” a family member told Sudanese newspapers.
The security apparatus arrested El Jeili and three of his colleagues including Abutalib Salaheldin Abutalib, Omar Siddig Mohamed Ali, and Saniya El Sheikh from their work headquarters at El Soug El Arabi on 9 January.
The reasons for their detention are not known. While Saniya El Sheikh has been freed, the others were transferred to Dabak Prison and then to Kober Prison in Khartoum.
