Cholera strikes miners in Sudan’s Northern State
Four people have died and dozens have been infected with cholera at Dalgo Hospital in the Northern State on Monday and Tuesday. Town residents are concerned that infections, originating from the mining area, will spread locally.

Nubian activist Adham Nasir told Radio Dabanga that on Sunday and Monday Dalgo Hospital has received dozens of cholera patients, which prompted the evacuation of the surgical ward to turn it into an isolation centre.
He said that all cases of infection and death were from the traditional mining area of Dalgo. He expressed concern that the disease will spread among the people of the residential areas adjacent to Dalgo Hospital.
He pointed out that the residents demanded the transfer of the isolation of the patients to the mining areas.
West Darfur
In West Darfur, the medical isolation centre of camp Murnei has received 54 new cases of cholera on Sunday and Monday.
Yesterday one of the sheikhs of camp Murnei told Radio Dabanga that the isolation wards have been filled with patients that prompted Doctors without Borders (MSF) to set up a new tent for isolation.
New Halfa
On Monday New Halfa Hospital in eastern Sudan recorded a death of cholera, while the number of cases in the isolation centre are 40 cases.
Yesterday a health source from New Halfa Hospital told Radio Dabanga that the death was from the Rataja in Atbara River locality.
He pointed to the shortage of medicines at new Halfa Hospital.
El Gedaref
A health source told Radio Dabanga of recording of 18 cases of cholera in El Gedaref on Tuesday.
The source added that the isolation centre at El Gedaref Hospital recorded 4 new cases.
He pointed out that El Fezra area of Basunda locality has recorded 10 cases of cholera.
He pointed to the emergence of four new cases in the area of Umelsagta of Galenahal locality in El Gedaref.
