Sudan Call to map road ahead at Paris meeting

Next month, the members of the Sudan Call coalition of opposition parties and armed movements will hold a meeting in the French capital Paris to discuss the preparation of a future work strategy.

El Sadig El Mahdi, the president of the National Umma Party and Sudan Call alliance said: “The forthcoming Paris meeting will address the tasks of the next phase”.

El Mahdi announced that after the Paris meeting, he would hold an Arab-African international tour before returning to Sudan.

He described the regime in Khartoum as “staggering now”, and added that “all the security, economic, political and foreign indicators indicate that the regime is moving into the abyss”.

He pointed to specific roadmaps on the horizon to build the homeland and stressed that the way to this new horizon is a comprehensive dialogue.

As reported by Radio Dabanga this week, the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF, a coalition of Sudanese armed movements) has renewed its commitment to search for a peaceful solution for the crisis in Sudan. The Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council (SLM-TC) faction has officially joined the coalition.

The SRF, currently chaired by Minni Minawi, leader of the SLM-MM, said in a statement on Saturday that the group remains committed to “peace as a strategic option to reach a comprehensive solution that addresses the root causes of the crisis in Sudan [..] and leads to democratic transformation and national reconciliation”.

The statement, issued at the end of a number of meetings of the SRF Leadership Council in Paris last week, further said that the rebel groups are striving for a comprehensive political solution based on the AU roadmap. They will continue to work under the umbrella of the Sudan Call, an alliance of opposition parties and civil society organisations.
