On Monday, tribal violence erupted in Port Sudan, capital of Red Sea state. At least three people were killed and several others were injured.

The clash erupted when a group of eastern Sudanese objected to a 'welcome programme' organised by supporters of El Amin Daoud, head of the United Popular Front for Liberation and Justice, who returned to Port Sudan from a year-long exile in France on Monday.

At the end of the programme, fighting broke out between the two groups, that led to the death of three people, injuries of several others, and the burning of vehicles in various parts of Port Sudan.

As a result, the state government announced a curfew in the city, starting from 5 pm to 5 am, in order to prevent more violence.

In August, Port Sudan witnessed violent clashes between eastern Sudanese Beni Amer tribesmen and settlers from the Nuba Mountains. The State of Emergency was declared. After intervention from Khartoum, the warring parties signed a reconciliation accord on September 8.
