Two wounded of Darfur wedding party shooting die

Two displaced who were shot at a wedding party in Silo camp in the Mershing area in South Darfur on Monday night, have died in Nyala Hospital on Thursday. Six victims already died, one in the hospital and five during the shooting. The governor of East Darfur launched a campaign to collect weapons.

The two victims are Esam Kamal Omar and Mohamed Musa Ibrahim.

The acting governor of South Darfur, Maj Gen Hashim Khalid, announced that three of the alleged perpetrators have been arrested. He said that the gunmen ambushed the pursuing army soldiers, police and Rapid Support Forces militiamen. An army corporal and two policemen were wounded.

The governor attributed the incident to the many weapons in the hands of ordinary people. “If these weapons are not collected, there can be no security, stability or development.”

East Darfur

The acting governor of East Darfur, Maj Gen El Muzamil Abubakr, launched a campaign today to collect unlicensed weapons and unregistered four-wheel drives. These weapons and vehicles must be handed over at police stations and military garrisons throughout East Sudan, he said.

The governor vowed to take harsh legal measures against those that do not turn in their unlicensed weapons.

The collecting of weapons will be overseen by a committee consisting of the commander of the 20th Infantry Division in Ed Daein, the Rapid Support Commander in East Darfur, the director of the police of East Darfur and the director of the East Darfur General Intelligence Service (GIS).
