Zalingei camp leaders reach compromise with WFP

The displaced people in Zalingei camps in West Darfur managed to reach to an agreement with the World Food Program last Thursday to settle the dispute over how food aid should be distributed. IDPs had vehemently protested the UN agency’s effort to commercialize the distribution of food aid.

The agreement states that the displaced population would receiving their rations of wheat directly from the WFP while other materials such as oil, lentils and other foods would be received from the traders in the camp and in Zalingei town.

The coordinator of the camps told Radio Dabanga that the agreement will be put to test for two months after which the two sides would sit together again to assess the experience and then decide on whether to go on with it or cancel it.
