Young woman raped in Kutum, North Darfur

Two militiamen ambushed a group of 20 women near Kutum town on Monday.

One of the women told Radio Dabanga that they were on their way, “with our donkeys carrying mangos” from Ein Siro to the Kutum market.

“When we reached the area between the Unamid base and the northern gate of Kutum, two militiamen riding on motorcycles intercepted us. They seized a 19-year-old woman from the group, and repeatedly raped her, while the rest of us managed to escape.”

She said that the fleeing women notified people in the area, who instantly went to search for the victim. “They found her in one of the valleys nearby, in a very bad mental and physical condition, and transferred her to Kutum hospital for treatment.”
