Workers threaten strike in North Darfur
The workers’ union of the civil service in North Darfur has threatened to enter into a general strike if the Ministry of Finance refuses to pay its 29,000 workers, an outstanding 52 million Sudanese pounds from owed from 2002-2011 a source told Radio Dabanga. In a press statement, leader of the union Abdulrahman Ali Dinar said that the union would consider all other options before strike. He pointed to the deteriorating economic and security conditions saying that a strike in North Darfur would have consequences of more instability, and although they’d be promised payment by the government they were still waiting for this to come through.
