Citizens in Babanusa locality in Sudan’s West Kordofan state are complaining about increasing prices and scarcity of essential commodities at the market.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, several residents expressed discontent about rising prices of commodities at the market, saying they couldn’t afford to buy essential commodities.
“A sack of charcoal has reached SDG80 ($13) and a cistern of cooking gas costs SDG400 ($65),” one local resident said. “A sack of onions is sold for SDG1000 ($163), while the prices of flour and cooking oil have increased dramatically.”
The citizens attributed the problem to conflict in Sudan and lack of development projects that could create employment opportunities for jobless people.
