West Darfur fraud victims demand justice
An extensive fraud involving the sale of vehicles and goods, has allegedly occurred at a new market in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, netting ‘hundreds of victims’.
An extensive fraud involving the sale of vehicles and goods, has allegedly occurred at a new market in El Geneina, the capital of West Darfur, netting ‘hundreds of victims’.
Victims of the fraud filed 14 reports with the police on Sunday and Monday, and the number continues to grow, one of the affected people was quoted by Sudanese newspapers.
There are reportedly hundreds of victims of the fraud that started with the criminals selling vehicles and goods in the Mawasir market and purchasing them at a lower price, by giving the owners post-dated checks.
Victims said that the leader of the fraud and one of his assistants, both of whom are from outside the state, escaped to an unknown destination.
A committee has been formed to support the victims in claiming their rights and compensation of their loss by peaceful and legal means. The victims, however, demanded from the state government resolve the issue before tension occurs and the situation escalates.
