Residents of Nyala, the largest city in South Darfur State, complained of high prices and scarcity of drinking water in recent days. A local resident told Radio Dabanga that continual electrical power outages and rising temperatures have made the demand for drinking water rise dramatically. He explained that the electricity was cut off for three consecutive days yet was provided on the fourth day at night – which was useless. Another resident said that the Mawasir scam has impacted the transportation sector of Nyala. The Mawasir scam was a sort of Ponzi scheme that attracted investors from across Darfur. The source said that many of the city’s vehicles were invested in the market scam, so they are longer available to the citizens of the city. This reduces the ease of movement among neighborhoods of the city.
