Water crisis in El Salam camp, South Darfur

The population of El Salam camp for the displaced in South Darfur complain of a shortage of drinking water. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, sheikh Mahjoub Adam Tabaldiya reported that the camp residents are suffering from a drinking water shortage because most of the water pumps in the camp have broken down. Since 5 January, there are only two pumps left that are operating, the sheikh said. Tabaldiya noted that both the camp residents and WEST, the Sudanese organisation working in the field of water, failed to find solutions to the water problem. He accused WEST, however, of selling water to traders rather than providing it to the displaced. The sheikh appealed to organisations working in the field of water to help find a solution.
