Speaking to Radio Dabanga from Hoshiri, journalist Osman Hashim said that a delegation of from Hoshiri village, about 20 km south of Port Sudan, submitted a memorandum with four demands to the management of the airport on Sunday morning.
“According to a prior agreement between the village and the airport administration, the latter would provide services to Hoshiri in return for the land taken from the villagers for the construction of the airport in 1993,” he explained.
The demands include priority to the village residents in the appointment of jobs, a reconsideration of recent job appointments, the determination of a certain percentage of labour jobs for the villagers, and taking into account a fair distribution of jobs to villagers who have a secondary school diploma.
The residents of the village warned the airport administration of “negative consequences” if their demands will be ignored.
Hashim said that the administration has not fulfilled its obligation to the villagers and has hired only three villagers at the airport so far.
