Members of the United States Embassy in Khartoum participated in a Community Health Day on 2 May in El Kalakla, Khartoum. The event was sponsored by the Abdelaal Elidrissi Organisation for Self-Rehabilitation, which is a non-profit group formed in 2008 to support the psychological needs of homeless people, persons with addictions, or those at risk for taking their own lives.

The May 2 event provided medical care and advice to more than 100 men, women, and children.  Community Health Day typically lasts three days.

The US Embassy’s Regional Medical Officer made a few remarks regarding US-Sudan medical cooperation and noted the embassy would be commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in Sudan and throughout the world.

The Abdelaal Elidrissi organisation conducts Community Health Days on a semi-regular basis to respond to medical needs in different communities.  To date, they have provided attention to over 2,260 people.
