UNHCR visits Doro camp

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres has visited refugees from Blue Nile state in Doro camp, Upper Nile state in South Sudan. His visit coincides with the arrival of food aid to 31,000 refugees living in the camps. The official food security coordinator of Doro camps, Asimawe Adlan told Radio Dabanga that refugees spoke to the Commissioner about their needs and felt they had received a positive response. António Guterres said there are more than 80,000 refugees staying in South Sudan in difficult conditions. During a the visit to Doro camp, he warned of disaster if no aid is provided to refugees. On Tuesday Valerie Amos, Under-Secretary-General of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs asked the government to allo UN agencies and international aid organizations into areas controlled by the SPLM in South Kordofan. She said people are suffering from food shortages, chronic malnutrition and diseases. The Commissioner for Suleiman Abdul Rahman said the UN for Humanitarian Affairs should submit a report addressing how to deliver humanitarian aid to the area. The government said it will study it and respond accordingly.
