UNDP not allowed to work in Al Muglad
Security authorities have prevented the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) from entering Al Muglad in South Kordofan to commence operations. Radio Dabanga has learned that authorities have refused UNDP permission to work in the area although it has kept an office in the region for more than two years. Sources said authorities have asked UN staff to bring a statement granting permission from the National Security Committee. UN vehicles have also reportedly been detained by military intelligence for three days in Babanusa as they were returning from Al Muglad to Khartoum. The humanitarian body were also asked to present permission from the head of military intelligence in Khartoum to allow them to pass to El Obeid in North Kordofan. UNDP pointed to the complaints of organizations working in the area of harassment by security services in El Muglad preventing foreign aid workers from operating in the region.
