Unamid workers strike in West Darfur
Employees of the African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (Unamid) in El Geneina, West Darfur, started a strike on Monday against the non-payment of their salaries for August.
About 120 employees blockaded the entrances and exits of the mission’s headquarters from 8.30 am to 1 pm local time.
One of the workers told Radio Dabanga that the demonstrators subsequently dispersed after Mohamed Islam, the director-general of the Unamid in El Geneina, addressed them and promised them that they will receive their salaries next Thursday.
