UNAMID recovers WFP trucks in North Darfur
On Tuesday the joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur said its peacekeepers recovered five trucks that had been seized by an unknown group belonging to the World food Programme (WFP). The convoy was captured on Monday on the route between Saraf Umra and Kabkabiya in North Darfur by troops from the Mission’s Rwandese battalions. The peacekeepers conducted a two day search and rescue operation, and managed to recover the vehicles in the area of Guldo, in East Jebel Marra. In the statement, UNAMID said they found the drivers of the trucks unharmed. The perpetrators fled upon arrival of the peacekeepers.
