Unamid delegation visits Hamidiya camp in Central Darfur

A Unamid delegation met with leaders of the Hamidiya camp for the displaced in Zalingei locality, Central Darfur, on Tuesday. The delegation, headed by the Deputy Chief of the UN-AU Mission in Darfur (Unamid), explained the camp leaders that the purpose of the meeting was to review the situation of the camp population, and discuss the Doha peace process. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the coordinator of the Central Darfur camps said that the camp leaders stressed the rampant insecurity in Darfur. They pointed out to the delegation that Unamid knows well that there is no peace in Darfur, blaming the Mission for its failure in implementing its task of protecting the civilians in the region. “The attacks on villages, displacement of civilians, killings, rapes, all happened under the eyes of Unamid.” The camp leaders handed the delegation a comprehensive memorandum, in which they strongly condemn the international community’s silence about the violence against civilians in Darfur. “The international community should immediately act and bring the perpetrators of crimes in the region to international justice, achieve a comprehensive peace, and put the Darfur region under the tutelage of the UN Security Council.” File photo: Unamid meeting in El Sareif, North Darfur (Albert González Farran/Unamid) Related:AU delegation visits Zamzam camp in North Darfur (16 March 2014)More than 1,000 Darfuri displaced attend Kalma conference (1 January 2014)
