UNAMID confirms bombing in North Darfur village
The UN/African Union Mission in Darfur has confimed that bombing took place in Sortony village in North Darfur at the beginning fo this month.In a statement UNAMID said ‘peacekeepers based in Sortony, visited Samara village yesterday, 5 km east of the Mission’s camp, and confirmed that bombings were carried out about 250 meters from the village on 1 April 2012.’ The mission said ‘the team also observed two craters with metallic fragments. There was no reported injury or death from the explosion. Villagers who had fled out of fear were seen returning back to their homes and the situation around the area has normalised.’
