UNAMID: community-based approach protection
According to a UNAMID press release from Sunday 9 September, “a multi-dimensional and community-based approach to protecting civilians” was discussed during a meeting in Khartoum. The UN Country Team (UNCT) and UNAMID attended the session. The meeting was co-chaired by UNAMID Acting Joint Special Representative Aichatou Mindaoudou and UN Resident Coordinator/Humanitarian Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Sudan Ali Al-Za’tari. It was stated on the press release that the focus of the meeting was “strengthening partnerships to better protect civilians”. In addition, it was “agreed that a joint committee would incorporate inputs proposed by the humanitarian community.” Both parties also agreed to continue supporting the Doha Document, the Darfur Regional Authority and the Darfur Joint Assessment Mission. By the end of the session, Ms. Mindaoudou stated she is “confident that through collaboration [they] can help improve the lives of the people of Darfur”.
