The United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) peacekeepers in Nertiti will intensify their patrols in West Darfur’s Arkis and Habad East refugee camps, the UNAMID said in a statement on Friday. The UNAMID received reports recently from the displaced people about cases of harassment by unidentified armed people. Radio Dabanga had reported in September about the kidnapping of an omda (local leader) in Nertiti. The UNAMID stated that there were casualties among civilians and freedom of movement is severely restricted.

Areas around Nertiti, which falls in Jebel Marra also face lack of humanitarian assistance.
