UNAMID: 80% of Kassab residents back

On 30 August UNAMID released a press statement stating that 80% of the displaced persons who fled Kassab camp to Kutum town in North Darfur due to recent attacks, have returned to their homes. According to the statement, UNAMID has been providing “round-the-clock presence, continuous patrols, monitoring movements in and around the camp and facilitating humanitarian assistance” at the camp. UNAMID also stated that humanitarian organizations have been able to resume their works at Kassab camp and that food distribution, for instance, has begun. The head of Kassab camp, Sheikh Taher Ismail, confirmed UNAMID’s statement to Radio Dabanga today. He said the security situation at the camp improved and that humanitarian organizations resumed their work at the camp.
