UN helicopter shot down in Jonglei, South Sudan
Unidentified gunmen damaged a helicopter belonging to the United Nations in South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Friday. The aircraft made an emergency landing and was later abandoned. The attack took place near Yuai in Jonglei State, one day after the UN base in Akobo was overrun and more than 20 civilians killed inside. The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), which operated the helicopter, has not yet released any information about the incident. Apparently there were no injuries. Three or four US military personnel were also wounded on Saturday when gunfire was directed at their aircraft on approach to Bor, also in Jonglei State. File photo: UN helicopter
