Umma official urges citizens to join Sudan Revolutionary Front

The vice president of the opposition Umma Party said the Party has joined the Sudan Revolutonary Front for the sake of Sudanese citizens everywhere. We call on all people at the centre, in the north and east to join the Front to stand with those at the margins and protect them from war, said Nasreldin Hadi El Mahdi to Radio Dabanga. El Mahdi said the regime in Khartoum wants to portray the conflict as regional to intimidate citizens in the north and east of the country, yet three quarters of the current citizens of Khartoum are from the marginalised states. He said the regime is trying to create tribal conflict and use the media to depict people in the border states as eating human flesh, to strike fear into citizens in the north and east. The Umma leader said this situation led the party to join the alliance of the Front. He called on all citizens wanting to bring change to the system to join and stressed the present war has nothing to do with ethnicity or race but described it as a war between forces that want positive change and democratisation against the small minority of the National Congress that want to fragment the country.
