Two women raped in North Darfur
Militiamen raped two women from the Sibag El Kheil camp for the displaced in Kabkabiya, North Darfur on Sunday. One of the camp sheikhs told Radio Dabanga that two gunmen, wearing military uniforms, on motorcycles assaulted two women, one of 16 and the other of 26, in Wadi Abdango, north of the camp. The women were collecting firewood on Sunday afternoon when the “insurgents” beat them with rifle butts before raping them. The victims were released late on Sunday evening. The camp sheikh said that both women are receiving treatment in the hospital of Kabkabiya. The incident was reported to the police and Unamid but “no one moved and went to the crime scene or pursued the perpetrators”. The sheikh stressed the need for protection of the camp residents, for the monitoring of sexual violence, and the prosecution of offenders.
