Two women beaten, injured by militiamen in West Darfur
Militiamen seriously injured two women of the Kondobe camp, Sirba locality in West Darfur on Sunday. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, the spokesperson for the Sirba camps reported that four women, aged 15, 17, 25 and 30, were attacked on Sunday morning by two government-backed militiamen while they were collecting firewood and straw in the area of Kudo, north of the camp. The militiamen attempted to rape the two youngest, but the two elder women beat the assailants with sticks and threw stones at them, giving the two younger women the opportunity to flee. The camp spokesperson said that Madina Abdelrahman (25) was severely injured in the eyes and Zahra Ismail Mumin (30) was wounded in the chest and her right leg. They were transferred to the Kondobe hospital for treatment. The incident was reported to the police, who did not prosecute the offenders, the spokesperson noted.
