Two UNAMID soldiers ambushed in North Darfur

On Thursday, two joint UN/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) soldiers were injured in an attack by three unidentified gunmen. A witness told Radio Dabanga three gunmen attacked and seized a UNAMID Land Cruiser vehicle in Kutum, wounding two soldiers and fleeing. The two soldiers were taken by helicopter to hospital in El Fasher for treatment. Deputy spokesperson for UNAMID Susan Manuel confirmed the incident to Radio Dabanga and said a UNAMID vehicle was attacked and looted at 4:00 pm on Thursday afternoon. She said the driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital and is in a good condition. Manuel added Sudanese police and UNAMID are carrying out a joint effort to hunt down the perpetrators.
