Two soldiers killed in ‘militia ambush’ in South Darfur
Two Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) soldiers were killed and others injured in an ambush by pro-government militiamen in South Darfur on Sunday.The SAF soldiers were in two vehicles travelling from Marshang to Kadanijr, when they were ambushed by militiamen “wearing military uniforms”. Sources said one of the SAF vehicles escaped the attack and returned to Marshang, while the other car was stolen by the perpetrators. The incident occurred in the Garol area, located west Marshang locality.According to witnesses, a MiG aircraft subsequently bombed the area of the attack.Farmers killed Also on Sunday, two farmers were killed and three others went missing in the Sag El Naama area, south of Wad Hijam in the El Radoom locality of South Darfur.Speaking to Radio Dabanga, a source said gunmen stole cattle from residents of the Sag El Naama area, which prompted a group of people to seek the perpetrators. The two groups are said to have clashed and three men from Sag El Naama went missing as a result. The group recovered the cattle. “However, on their way back home they killed two farmers suspected to belonged to the tribe of the men who stole the cattle,” sources said.The victims, a witness said, are Ahmed Ibrahim Ahmed and Tahir Yousif El-Mahdi.Nyala: citizens injured In Nyala, capital of South Darfur, a number of citizens were injured and their money, mobile phones, and luggage were stolen by alleged pro-government militiamen.A witness told Radio Dabanga that the gunmen, riding camels and dressed in military uniforms, stopped a commercial vehicle in the area of Burouma, near Nyala, its final destination. The vehicle was originally coming from Hijer.“They beat and flogged the passengers before robbing their belongings and a total of SDG7,000 ($1,600)”, sources said.File photo by Unamid
