Two children starve to death in North Darfur’s Shangil Tobaya
Haroun Yahya Abakar (4) and Dar Elnaeem Omar Saleh (3) died of starvation in the area of Shangil Tobaya, North Darfur, on Wednesday. Their families belong to the more than 3,000 newly displaced who had to flee attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese Air Force on their villages in East Jebel Marra in March and April. “The conditions of the newly displaced are extremely serious,” a listener in Shangil Tobaya reported to Radio Dabanga.“They did not receive any aid so far. Apart from the absence of health care, the people are suffering from a lack of food, and a severe shortage of drinking water.” “The authorities in Shangil Tobaya refused to allocate space for the settlement of an official camp for the Jebel Marra displaced. So they cannot be registered and supported by relief organisations,” he explained.
