Two arrested for killing Nyala protestors

In a press statement released in Nyala on August 27 the Governor of South Darfur, Hamad Ismail Hamad, announced the arrest of two men suspected of six killings during the Nyala demonstrations in July. He added the perpetrators of the other two fatal victims remain at large. According to official numbers released on 2 August, eight people were killed in total during the protests in Nyala. The Governor of South Darfur revealed two members of the security services are accused of killing six persons during the demonstrations in the month of Ramadan (three each). He added both suspects confessed the crimes after being arrested. In addition, Hamad announced that the perpetrators of the other two fatal victims remain missing. He said in this case the government will offer the victims’ families a compensation for the killings (Diyyas), also known as blood money. Also in the press statement, Hamad announced his government will permanently withdraw the license of private schools whose students continue to demonstrate from inside their territories.
