Transport suspended in Central Darfur
Commercial transport companies have suspended services between Nyala, capital of South Darfur, and Golo, Nierteti, and Zalingei in Central Darfur, a week ago, because of the large number of militia toll gates and the high fees they are forced to pay. A passenger told Radio Dabanga from Zalingei, capital of Central Darfur, that the commercial vehicles and pick-ups stopped transport a week ago because of the large number of toll gates set up by “government-backed militiamen” along the Nyala-Zalingei highway. “The fees for a commercial vehicle on the Nyala-Zalingei highway reached SDG3,000 ($518), and SDG6,000 ($1,037) on the Golo-Nierteti road. The source demanded from the Central Darfur state authorities to intervene, remove “these illegal toll gates, and expel these militiamen.” File photo: Commercial buses in Kabkabiya, North Darfur (Albert González Farran/Unamid) Related: North Darfur state to remove illegal toll gates (3 October 2014)
