The Sudanese federal Ministry of Health has announced a three-year plan to combat the spread of HIV/AIDS in the country.
According to Tareg Mohamed Abdallah, director of the Ministry’s HIV/AIDS department, 52,000 HIV/AIDS cases have been recorded.
In a press conference in Khartoum on Monday, he said that the treatment of 61 percent of the patients at HIV/AIDS centres started one year ago. Yet, only nine percent of them regularly visit the centres.
The medical director said that his department therefore developed a programme to diagnose and identify new cases, and convince the patients of the importance of continuing their treatment.
