Authorities in North Darfur’s Shalla prison released three detained refugees on bail on Thursday. The detainees, Iz Aldin Adam, Fara Adam Issaq and Adam Youssef, are still awaiting their trial.Two other refugees are from North Darfur’s camps are still locked up in Shalla prison since more than two years without trial, said Ahmed Atem, coordinator of the camps in North Darfur.
He told Radio Dabanga, “The refugees had been detained for having spoken publicly about the human rights violations committed by the authorities against the refugees. One of the detained refugees is diabetic but was deprived of any medical treatment.”
Ahmed Atem called for the international community and especially Ibrahim Gambari, the United Nations African Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) chief negotiator, to intervene for the release of the prisoners.
