In an attack by Habaniya gunmen on a Rizeigat village in El Firdous locality, East Darfur, on Monday, three people were killed.
“The victims belong to the family of Omda El Hilu,” an eyewitness told Dabanga. “Two of them were killed instantly, and the third one died of his injuries on Tuesday.”
He said that the incident was most probably a retaliation attack for the killing of two Habaniya members of a “rescue team” returning livestock stolen from Rizeigat tribesmen in the area three weeks ago. “Rizeigat militants thought they were robbers, and shot them dead.”
The attack led to tensions in the area, as large groups of armed tribesmen from both sides are gathering in the locality.
“If representatives of the native administration do not intervene quickly to resolve the problem, fighting may erupt soon.”
