Thirst in North Darfur’s Shangil Tobaya camps
The displaced in North Darfur’s Shangil Tobaya camps are suffering from an acute shortage of drinking water.
“Most of the water pumps have broken down,” a resident of Naivasha camp explained to Dabanga. “We are depending on one well, operated with a donkey. A family now has to make do with four gallons of drinking water a week.
“The price of water at the market has risen to SDG2 ($0.33) a gallon,” he said, explaining that the displaced cannot afford it. “They also do not have the means to fetch drinking water from the neighbouring areas.”
The camp resident called on the state authorities to “urgently repair the engines, especially as the hot summer is approaching”.
