The Board of Deans of El Gezira University today announced the suspension of study indefinitely “in order to preserve the safety of the university’s students and employees”. The decision follows an attack on the office of the university’s director this afternoon, during which the attackers ransacked and searched the office, and destroyed some items.
In a statement, the Council of Deans condemned the attack, as well as the arrests that have been going on since the October 25 coup.
The council condemned “terrorising the administration employees and the infliction of material and moral harm”.
He noted the continued detention of Dr Osman Mahmoud and Malik Kanan in a civilian prison, demanding their immediate release, and referred to the release of the deans of the faculties of education and law.
The Deans of the Universities of Khartoum and the Red Sea announced the indefinite suspension of study earlier this week.
The statement, issued on Saturday following an emergency meeting of the Council of Deans of the University of Khartoum, which is considered the most prestigious of Sudanese universities, “suspends studies in all faculties of the university for an indefinite period”.
