Ten gunmen rape 16-year-old girl
An armed group of ten raped a 16-year-old girl on Saturday October 13 in Kassab camp, North Darfur, sources informed Radio Dabanga.Kassab camp sheikh, Taher Ismail, told Radio Dabanga that a gunman in military uniform abducted the displaced girl, while threatening her at gunpoint, from the camp on Saturday afternoon and took her to a small bedouin camp (Tele) at approximately seven kilometers northeast of Kassab camp. The girl was reportedly raped by ten gunmen in the bedouin camp and was released on Sunday. Sheikh Taher expressed his concern and dismay about the increasing number of rape and assault incidents, by pro-government militias, targeting displaced persons. He added to Radio Dabanga that the incident has been reported to both UNAMID and the police. Protection for displaced women He disclosed that the camp representatives will submit a memorandum to UNAMID and the government authorities. The memorandum will include detailed information on the number of rape and assault cases on female camp residents during the past period, Sheikh Taher added to Radio Dabanga. Sheikh Taher disclosed that the camp representatives submitted a request on Sunday in a meeting with a civil affairs representative from UNAMID, a representative from UNHCR and the UN. They asked the mission to initiate a patrol for protection of displaced women once or twice a week when the women leave the camp to collect wood. Taher added to Radio Dabanga that the UNAMID representative ensured to raise the request to the head of the mission, he told Radio Dabanga from Kassab camp.
