Teachers in South Darfur capital temporarily lift strike

The teachers in Nyala suspended their strike from work with the aim of offering a chance to the ongoing efforts to solve the dispute, which is about how much back-pay they are owed by the government, both nationally and at a state level, and how fast it can be paid back. The teachers gave the authorities until 9 August as a deadline for them to keep their pledges. The chairman of the trade union of teachers in Nyala, Abdul Rahman Musa, told Radio Dabanga that they have decided to lift the strike starting from today to give way to the efforts carried out by the trade union with the Government of National Unity and the state government. He stated that the state government yesterday conceded that it would pay 1.2 billion, but he stressed that they are tired of urging the government and the strike would go on if the promises are not fulfilled.
