Patients report that shortages in supplies of basic necessities have halted operation at Ed Daein Hospital in the capital of East Darfur, however official sources attribute the shut-down to the death of a staff member.
A number of patients have told Radio Dabanga that operations have stopped at the hospital fir the last two weeks due to a lack of some basic medical supplies such as bandages and gloves.
They said dozens of patients have been held in the surgical ward waiting for various operations.
The Commissioner of Ed Daein locality, Ali Tahir Sharif, denied the stop of operations at Ed Daein Hospital, but confirmed to Radio Dabanga a halt of operations at the hospital last Friday because of the death of a staff member of the Ministry of Health.
Dongola medics strike
On Sunday, the doctors of Dongola Hospital in Sudan’s Northern State entered into an open-ended strike except for emergency cases in protest against the severe shortage of medical equipment such as oxygen, drinking water, beds and mattresses in all the wards.
