Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad lack hygiene, medical staff
The Sudanese refugees of camp Djabal in eastern Chad have complained of high incidences of deaths, malaria, diarrhoea and vomiting, especially among the youngest and the elderly, as well as an acute lack of medical staff working in the camp. The shekh of the camp, Abdallah Juma Abkar, revealed to Radio Dabanga that 22 people have died during August this year. The camp’s hospital receives more than 200 cases per day most of whom are children and pregnant women. Due to the deterioration of the environment, a lack of hygiene, mosquitoes and flies have increased, and with this the number of people falling ill. Referring to the shortage of medical staff in the camp, he appealed to the organisations working in the medical field to speed up the provision of medications and increasing the medical staff working at the hospital.
