Agents of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS) detained a student member of the National Umma Party (NUP) in Omdurman on Monday evening and took him to an unknown destination.
In a statement today, his family said that Emad El Sadig was detained after he had met Anas El Badrabi, the security officer who oversaw the torture of him and his colleagues in a Khartoum prison in 2012.
El Sadig's relatives expressed their “deep concern”that he will be ill-treated and tortured again and called upon human rights organisations to pressure the government to release him “as soon as possible”.
The NUP Students' Secretariat also issued a statement in which they demand the immediate release of their colleague.
They further urged civil society organisations and political forces to “make the utmost efforts to put an end to violations of the regime regarding opposition students”.
