Sudanese government protests against reception of Khalil Ibrahim in Cairo
The Sudanese government protested against the reception of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) leader Khalil Ibrahim in Cairo. The government even urged Interpol to arrest the JEM leader. The request came from Justice Minister Abdel-Basset Sabdarat. But Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmed Abul Gheit downplayed the importance of the reports of the Sudanese protest. Abul Gheit told Radio Dabanga that the JEM is in Egypt to find a solution for the crisis in Darfur.

The JEM described for its part the move of the Sudanese government as media buffoonery intended to coincide with Khalil Ibrahim’s visit to Cairo. Ahmed Tugod Lissan, leader of the delegation, commented that the decision of the Ministry of Justice proves that the National Congress Party (NCP) of President Bashir is not serious in the peace process.
