Sudan to negotiate with rebels on South Kordofan and Blue Nile

The Deputy Chairman of Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP) and head of the government delegation for negotiations on South Kordofan and the Blue Nile states, Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, has confirmed the government’s readiness for dialogue concerning the two states. In a press conference at the NCP’s headquarters on Sunday, Ghandour said that the President Omar Al Bashir in a number of occasions has expressed the government’s keenness to negotiate the issue of the two states. “Two months ago, we conveyed the desire to negotiate to the African Union Mediator, Thabo Mbeki, who set 12 December as a date for starting the negotiations. This, however, has been postponed because the death of Nelson Mandela.” Ghandour reiterated the NCP’s unshakeable position on dialogue and its commitment to defending Sudan and its people against the rebel movements.
