Sudan security quizzes El Gedaref youth about graffiti

Security authorities in eastern Sudan’s El Gedaref interrogated a number of young people because of the political graffiti that has appeared on walls in the town. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Jaafar Khidir, activist and founder of the Sunrise Cultural Centre in El Gedaref reported that security agents on Tuesday detained a number of young people in the town. “They were interrogated about the slogans calling for revenge for the victims of the September 2013 demonstrations, written on the vehicle of the National Military Service coordinator, the vehicle of the Commissioner of Fashaga, the walls of the National Congress Party office, and many other walls in El Gedaref town.” ‘Deep concern’ The US spokeswoman for the Department of State, Jane Sacchi, has expressed her deep concern about the detention by the Sudanese security forces of dozens of political activists and civil society leaders during the preparations for the commemoration of the victims of the 2013 September protests. She urged the Sudanese authorities to respect the universal human rights, and demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the human rights violations during the 2013 demonstrations. Speaking to Radio Dabanga, Jaafar Khidir, activist and founder of the Sunrise Cultural Centre in El Gedaref reported that security agents on Tuesday detained a number of young people in the town.

“They were interrogated about the slogans calling for revenge for the victims of the September 2013 demonstrations, written on the vehicle of the National Military Service coordinator, the vehicle of the Commissioner of Fashaga, the walls of the National Congress Party office, and many other walls in El Gedaref town.”

‘Deep concern’
