Sudan’s Misseriya clans clash again in West Kordofan

At least 196 people were killed and injured in renewed clashes between warring clans of the Misseriya Humur in West Kordofan on Friday. “The Awlad Imran clashed with El Ziyoud in the areas of Fisheig and El Baraka in Babanusa locality on Friday over a dispute about pastures”, El Ziyoud Omda, Yousif Yagoub, told Radio Dabanga. “70 people of the Awlad Imran were killed, and 70 were wounded. Of El Ziyoud clan, 23 were killed and 36 wounded.” The Omda said that his clan has withdrawn from the ruling National Congress Party, “because the government is ignoring tribal conflicts”. He accused some “high-ranking officials within the regime” of profiting from the tribal conflicts in the region.Misseriya sheikh Mohamed Wad Abuk holds the local authorities and the West Kordofan State government responsible for the outbreak of the clashes. The Omda said that his clan has withdrawn from the ruling National Congress Party, “because the government is ignoring tribal conflicts”. He accused some “high-ranking officials within the regime” of profiting from the tribal conflicts in the region.
