‘Sudan’s military officials indeed smuggle arms’: investigation

A Sudanese investigation commission has recognised the involvement of military and senior officials in trafficking arms. The commission at the Sudanese Ministry which investigates reports of smuggling and arms trafficking in Sudan has found that up to 200 people have been involved these crimes, including military and senior officials. The head of the commission, Nazir Hamid El Faki, has revealed that there are ten reports, in addition to fifteen others, used in the investigation. A number of Kalashnikov and more than a million pieces of ammunition have been found so far. On 5 December Radio Dabanga reported about the study ‘The Human Trafficking Cycle: Sinai and Beyond’, which had found “a close collaboration between Eritrean traffickers and Sudanese security, military and police officials”.
