Sudan police search prisoners in Omdurman
Prison police officers raided a number of wards of the Omdurman Men’s Prison on Thursday.
They searched the inmates and seized their money and mobile telephones.
The prison’s director confirmed the searches to reporters on Friday, and said that a number of mobile phones with access to the internet were confiscated.
He stated that “the money taken from the prisoners will be returned to them. Each inmate just needs to bring in two witnesses to prove his claim”.
The inmates themselves told the reporters that they suffer from a shortage of beds and leaking roofs, which prompts them to sleep on the ground, under umbrellas. They said that they are not protected from the heat, the rain, or the current cold wave.
