Sudan opposition hope to announce agreement on Friday
In a joint statement, the National Umma Party (NUP) and the Sudan Revolutionary Front (SRF, an alliance of the main rebel movements) announced on Thursday that the current dialogue being conducted in Paris will continue on Friday. The historic meeting, which is the first face-to-face encounter between the leaders of the two parties, is aimed at unifying the opposition forces in Sudan. SRF chairman Malik Agar told Radio Dabanga that the dialogue will continue between them, in the hope that a solution can be reached, to end the crisis in Sudan, to reach a just solution, end the war in Sudan and bring about democratic change. “We feel that there is no real serious dialogue in Sudan to resolve the issues and end the war in Sudan, so our dialogue will continue until it gathers all political forces in to find a real way out of the crisis.” NUP leader, Imam El Sadig El Mahdi, said the two parties have agreed to strive for democratic change and real peace-building to stop the war: “Our meeting has been friendly with much candour and clarity,” he said. “We are currently working to research in detail how we can meet the hopes and achieve the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
