The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) has issued a stern warning to violators of Sudanese airspace, saying it “will deal decisively with any aircraft that does not abide by the correct procedure”.
In a report by the official Sudan News Agency (SUNA), the spokesman for the SAF, Brig. Ahmed Khalifa Al Shami, said that “on May 17, air traffic control equipment monitored 20 violations of Sudanese airspace by Ilyushin 76 aircraft belonging to international and regional organisations”.
He stressed that these flights did not obtain prior permission to enter Sudanese airspace.
He said that such a move represented a flagrant violation of Sudanese sovereignty and the international customs, charters, and laws that govern air traffic.
Al Shami said the SAF will deal decisively with any aircraft that does not abide by the correct procedure by getting prior permission from air traffic control.
